Chapter 2: Getting Better

16 min read

The Thousand Sunny finally reached a bustling port several hours after leaving Mary Geoise.

The streets were crowded with merchants, sailors, pirates, and travelers.

Yet the crew couldn't relax.

The strange events at Mary Geoise were still fresh in their minds.

The Cradle of Silence.

Mother Flame.

Imu.

Whatever had begun, it was only getting worse.

Luffy stepped onto the dock and stretched his arms.

"I'm hungry."

Zoro sighed.

"Of course you are."

Before Luffy could answer, a voice suddenly exploded through the crowd.

"LUFFY! THE FUTURE PIRATE KING!"

Everyone turned.

A wild figure pushed his way through the crowd, nearly knocking over a stack of crates.

"I'M YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN!"

Luffy's eyes widened.

"Bartolomeo!"

Bartolomeo threw his arms into the air dramatically.

"That's right! The legendary Bartolomeo has arrived!"

A strange energy formed around his hands.

The air in front of him twisted and solidified, creating a glowing barrier-like structure that shifted shape.

"With my Creation powers, I can construct and reshape energy around me!"

He grinned proudly.

"And I've heard you're heading into some kind of world-ending disaster!"

Bartolomeo pointed dramatically toward Luffy.

"So obviously, I'm coming with you!"

Luffy grinned.

"Sure!"

Zoro looked at him.

"You didn't even think about it."

"He's cool!"

"That's not a reason."

Akshith crossed his arms.

"Great. More noise."

Bartolomeo immediately turned toward him.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!"

Akshith sighed.

"Exactly."

A few of the others laughed.

Even the tension that had followed them from Mary Geoise finally began to fade.

But the laughter didn't last.

The sky above the port suddenly darkened.

Harshil stopped moving.

"Wait."

He looked upward.

"Everyone be quiet."

The entire group fell silent.

A strange vibration passed through the air.

Then—

CRACK.

A black rift tore open above the harbor.

People screamed and scattered.

A massive figure descended through the opening.

Saturn.

He landed on the dock with enough force to crack the stone beneath his feet.

His eyes scanned the group.

"The world is breaking down."

His voice was cold.

"And your dreams will break with it."

Luffy stepped forward.

"Who are you?"

Saturn smiled.

"Someone who has watched this world fall apart before."

He raised one hand.

A powerful shockwave exploded outward.

The crew was thrown across the dock.

Mahan slammed into a wooden building.

Dhruv caught himself against the ground.

Sriyansh froze the surface beneath his feet to stop himself from sliding farther.

Law immediately activated his Room.

"ROOM!"

The battlefield expanded around them.

"Everyone, stay together!"

Saturn looked directly at Law.

"Together?"

He smiled.

"That won't matter."

The sky twisted again.

A voice echoed from above.

Imu.

"Welcome to the new world."

The ground beneath the crew disappeared.

Luffy reached for the others.

"WAIT!"

Everything went black.

When Luffy opened his eyes, he was standing alone.

The others were gone.

The world around him looked familiar.

But something was wrong.

The sky was black.

The ground was cracked.

Buildings floated upside down in the distance.

And hundreds of dark figures stood silently across the horizon.

Each one looked like someone from the crew.

But they weren't.

They were shadows.

Twisted versions of themselves.

Imu's voice echoed through the strange world.

"Every warrior carries a weakness."

"Every dream has a doubt."

"Face what you fear."

"Or remain here forever."

The shadows began to move.

The Crew Faces Their Shadows

Mahan stood in a field of blackened stone.

Across from him stood his shadow.

It looked almost identical to him.

But there was no emotion in its eyes.

Mahan raised his arm.

Magma poured from his fist.

His shadow did the same.

"So you're the version of me that feels nothing."

The shadow attacked.

Mahan blocked the strike.

"Then I'll prove that strength isn't about becoming emotionless."

He launched himself forward.

Thaman found himself inside a burning wasteland.

Flames surrounded him from every direction.

His shadow emerged from the fire.

Its flames were wild and uncontrollable.

"You can't control me."

Thaman clenched his fists.

"Maybe not."

His flames intensified.

"But I can control myself."

He stepped forward instead of retreating.

Nihal stood inside an enormous empty chamber.

There was nobody around him.

Not even a sound.

His shadow stood at the other end.

"You're alone."

Nihal closed his eyes.

"Being alone doesn't mean being weak."

His Buddha aura expanded.

The chamber shook.

Sudheepkar faced a gigantic T-Rex.

It was faster.

More aggressive.

Completely merciless.

The beast charged.

Sudheepkar transformed.

"You may be stronger than me."

He lowered his head.

"But you're nothing but instinct."

He charged back.

Charvik appeared inside a dark forest.

His shadow moved between the trees, constantly changing positions.

"You can't catch me."

Charvik smiled.

"I don't need to."

Kitsune flames appeared around his body.

"I just need to know where you're going."

He vanished into the darkness.

Law stood inside a massive Room.

His shadow controlled everything inside it.

Walls moved.

Rocks floated.

Even the ground beneath Law shifted.

"Control everything."

The shadow raised its hand.

"That's what power is for."

Law stared at him.

"No."

He raised his sword.

"Control isn't about ruling everyone."

His Room expanded.

"It's about deciding what happens next."

Mokshith stood on a frozen mountain.

His shadow slowly backed away from him.

"You're afraid."

Mokshith clenched his fists.

"Of course I am."

The shadow froze.

"But I'm still moving forward."

Mammoth energy erupted around him.

Tanush found himself surrounded by massive storms.

A gigantic dragon made entirely of raging energy descended from the clouds.

Tanush looked up.

"That's supposed to scare me?"

The dragon roared.

Tanush transformed.

"Then let's see which dragon is stronger."

He launched himself into the storm.

Luffy stood alone on a broken island.

His shadow sat on the ground.

Defeated.

Exhausted.

"You failed."

Luffy stared at him.

"So?"

The shadow looked up.

"Everyone you care about will eventually leave you."

Luffy's expression hardened.

"Maybe."

He clenched his fists.

"But I'll keep moving forward."

His rubber body stretched.

He charged.

Ace stood in a dark chamber surrounded by extinguished flames.

His shadow looked at him.

"You'll never reach the strength you could have had."

Ace looked at the tiny flame in his hand.

"Maybe I'm not there yet."

The flame grew.

"That doesn't mean I'll stop."

He stepped forward.

Kizaru stood beneath a completely black sky.

His shadow appeared behind him.

"Trust nobody."

Kizaru turned.

"That's an interesting lesson."

Light gathered around his body.

"But I don't think I'll be learning it from you."

Zoro stood before a massive stone path.

Three swords rested in the ground.

His shadow walked away from them.

"You abandoned your path."

Zoro pulled the swords free.

"No."

He looked toward the horizon.

"I'm still walking it."

Sriyansh stood inside a frozen wasteland.

His shadow was completely covered in ice.

No emotion.

No movement.

No hesitation.

"Feel nothing."

Sriyansh looked at it.

"That's not strength."

Ice and Blizzard energy erupted around him.

"That's emptiness."

Dhruv stood in the middle of a shattered battlefield.

His shadow looked powerless.

Weak.

Broken.

"You can't protect anyone."

Dhruv looked at his hands.

The ground began to tremble.

"Then I'll get stronger."

A shockwave exploded outward.

Harshil stood in complete silence.

His shadow had no voice.

No sound came from it.

Harshil closed his eyes.

Then he smiled.

"You're trying to make me afraid of silence."

Sound energy began vibrating through the ground.

"Wrong choice."

The silence shattered.

Tanish stood in a distorted city.

His shadow flickered like a broken image.

Parts of its body appeared and disappeared.

"You're corrupted."

Tanish narrowed his eyes.

"Maybe."

His Tiger and Dark powers surged.

"But I'm still me."

He charged.

Bartolomeo stood inside a strange arena surrounded by broken creations.

His shadow laughed.

"You're only powerful when people notice you."

Bartolomeo's smile disappeared.

He looked at the shattered structures around him.

"No."

His Creation powers began rebuilding them.

"I create because I want to."

He raised his hands.

"Not because I need anyone watching."

The arena shook.

One by one, the shadows began disappearing.

But the battle wasn't over.

The strange world changed again.

The individual chambers vanished.

Every member of the group found themselves standing in a massive circular arena.

Luffy looked around.

"Everyone!"

Zoro tightened his grip on his swords.

"Looks like we're back together."

Law examined the arena.

"Not completely."

He pointed toward the center.

A gigantic black mass was forming.

The shadows they had defeated were merging together.

Mahan's eyes narrowed.

"So that was only the first stage."

Oden stepped forward.

He had been separated from the others until now.

He looked at the growing darkness.

"These aren't ordinary enemies."

Luffy looked at him.

"Then what are they?"

Oden gripped his swords.

"They're trying to make us fight the parts of ourselves we'd rather ignore."

Dhruv cracked his knuckles.

"Then we'll destroy them."

Oden grinned.

"Now you're thinking."

The black mass roared.

The entire arena shook.

Suddenly, strange energy began surrounding the crew.

Their fruits reacted.

Mahan's magma burned brighter.

Thaman's flames became more controlled.

Nihal's Buddha aura expanded.

Sudheepkar's T-Rex instincts sharpened.

Charvik's Kitsune flames became brighter.

Law's Room became more precise.

Mokshith's Mammoth strength surged.

Tanush's dragon energy erupted into the sky.

Luffy's rubber body crackled with power.

Ace's flames grew stronger.

Kizaru's light became brighter.

Zoro's swords vibrated with energy.

Sriyansh's ice spread across the arena.

Dhruv's fists trembled with quake energy.

Harshil's sound waves shook the air.

Tanish's Tiger and Dark powers flickered together.

Bartolomeo's creations surrounded the group like a fortress.

The strange world had forced them to confront their weaknesses.

And now their powers were responding.

But there was one final problem.

They hadn't awakened their fruits yet.

The arena began collapsing around them.

Oden looked toward the others.

"You want to get stronger?"

Luffy grinned.

"Obviously!"

Oden raised his swords.

"Then stop waiting for power to appear."

"Take it."

The group charged forward together.

Their training began.

Each warrior was sent into a separate chamber once again.

But this time, they weren't fighting shadows.

They were fighting themselves.

Every chamber tested something different.

Control.

Strength.

Speed.

Endurance.

Focus.

Determination.

Hours passed.

Or days.

The strange world made it impossible to tell.

Mahan learned to control the temperature and flow of his magma instead of simply releasing more of it.

Thaman learned to keep his flames stable even when anger tried to overwhelm him.

Nihal learned to remain calm while surrounded by overwhelming pressure.

Sudheepkar learned to use his T-Rex instincts without allowing them to control his decisions.

Charvik learned to combine his speed and Kitsune abilities with precise attacks instead of relying only on raw power.

Law refined his Room until even the smallest movement could be controlled with precision.

Mokshith learned to turn his enormous strength into controlled, powerful attacks.

Tanush learned to control the destructive energy of his dragon form.

Luffy pushed his body beyond what he believed possible.

Ace trained his flames despite still lacking an awakening.

Kizaru learned to use his light with greater precision.

Zoro continued cutting through increasingly powerful obstacles.

Sriyansh learned to combine his Ice, Yeti, and Blizzard abilities without letting one interfere with the others.

Dhruv trained his Quake powers until he could create controlled shockwaves instead of destroying everything around him.

Harshil learned to manipulate sound in ways he had never attempted before.

Tanish learned to keep his Tiger and Dark powers from interfering with each other.

Bartolomeo pushed his Creation powers further, constructing stronger and more complex defenses.

Then—

Silence.

Every chamber stopped.

One by one, the warriors opened their eyes.

Something had changed.

Their powers felt different.

Stronger.

Sharper.

More natural.

Mahan looked at his hands.

His magma flowed smoothly around his arms.

"I understand it now."

Thaman opened his palm.

A controlled flame appeared.

"The power was always there."

Across the chambers, the others felt the same thing.

Their fruits had responded to their growth.

The strange world had not simply made them stronger.

It had forced them to understand their own abilities.

The walls of the chambers began disappearing.

The entire group reunited.

Luffy looked around.

Everyone looked exhausted.

But nobody had given up.

Luffy grinned.

"We're stronger now."

Zoro smirked.

"Then let's see what that world throws at us next."

Oden looked toward the dark horizon.

"Whatever it is…"

He drew one of his swords.

"We're ready."

The arena trembled.

Somewhere beyond the darkness, Imu watched.

And for the first time, the mysterious figure's expression changed.

The warriors had survived their shadows.

They had grown stronger.

They had learned to control powers they once struggled to understand.

But their true enemy was still waiting.

And the next battle would not take place inside their minds.

It would take place in the real world.

Mahan's body radiated intense heat as molten magma flowed around his arms. Cracks of glowing magma spread across the ground beneath his feet, and the chamber trembled with every step he took.

His roar echoed through the chamber like a volcanic eruption.

"I won't be buried by the darkness."

The magma around him erupted.

Thaman stood surrounded by bright orange and red flames.

Instead of burning wildly, the flames moved in controlled spirals around his body.

He raised one hand.

Fire gathered into his palm.

His eyes remained calm.

"I don't need to lose control to become stronger."

The flames compressed into a brilliant sphere before exploding outward.

Nihal stood completely still as a golden aura surrounded him.

His Buddha form radiated a powerful presence, but there was no anger in his expression.

The energy flowing through his body became steadier with every breath.

The chamber shook around him.

Nihal didn't move.

"Peace isn't weakness."

His golden aura expanded.

"It's strength."

Sudheepkar's body changed as his T-Rex power surged through him.

Scales formed across his arms and back.

His muscles tensed as his primal instincts became sharper.

A deep roar escaped him.

But this time, he didn't let his instincts take over.

He looked directly at his shadow.

"I'm the one controlling the beast."

He charged.

Charvik's Kitsune flames suddenly erupted behind him.

Nine glowing tails spread through the chamber, each surrounded by flickering energy.

Illusions appeared around him.

One Charvik became three.

Then five.

Then ten.

His shadow looked around in confusion.

Charvik smiled.

"You can't defeat someone you can't even find."

The illusions rushed forward.

Law stood inside his Room.

The space around him twisted and shifted with every movement of his hand.

Objects floated through the air before suddenly changing direction.

His control had become more precise than ever.

Law looked at his shadow.

"Power isn't about controlling everything."

His Room expanded.

"It's about knowing exactly what you need to control."

The entire chamber warped.

Mokshith's body grew larger as his Mammoth power surged through him.

His tusks gleamed as the ground cracked beneath his feet.

He raised one enormous arm.

"I'm not running anymore."

He slammed his fist into the ground.

The shockwave tore through the chamber.

Tanush transformed as dragon scales spread across his body.

Massive wings unfolded behind him.

Storm clouds gathered overhead.

Lightning flashed across the chamber.

Tanush looked toward the sky.

"Then let the storm come."

He launched himself upward.

Luffy stood alone in the darkness.

His body stretched farther than before.

His movements became faster.

His shadow attacked.

Luffy dodged.

He bounced off the walls, twisted through the air, and launched himself forward.

"I'm still going to become the Pirate King!"

His fist slammed into the ground.

The entire chamber shook.

Ace stood surrounded by flames.

His fire burned brighter than before, but this time every movement was controlled.

He raised his hand.

The flames followed his movements perfectly.

Ace smiled.

"I'm not awakened yet."

He clenched his fist.

"But I'm still getting stronger."

Kizaru's entire chamber filled with light.

His body became a streak of golden energy.

He vanished.

A second later, he appeared behind his shadow.

Kizaru looked at it calmly.

"Too slow."

Zoro stood with his three swords drawn.

Green energy surrounded the blades.

Every slash cut through the obstacles in front of him.

Stone walls split apart.

Zoro lowered his swords.

"My path hasn't changed."

He looked forward.

"I'm still moving."

Sriyansh stood inside a freezing storm.

Ice crystals formed around his hands and feet.

Blizzard winds spiraled around him.

His Ice, Yeti, and Blizzard powers began working together instead of fighting for control.

Sriyansh raised his hand.

The entire chamber froze.

"Cold doesn't mean lifeless."

He closed his fist.

"It means controlled."

Dhruv stood in the center of a shattered arena.

Quake energy pulsed through his fists.

He punched forward.

A controlled shockwave tore across the floor.

Another followed.

Then another.

Dhruv stared at the cracks spreading through the ground.

"I don't need to destroy everything."

He raised his fist again.

"I just need enough power to protect what matters."

Harshil stood in complete silence.

His shadow expected him to panic.

Instead, Harshil closed his eyes.

He listened.

A tiny vibration passed through the floor.

Then another.

His Sound powers began resonating through the chamber.

"Even silence has a sound."

He opened his eyes.

A powerful wave of sound exploded outward.

Tanish's body flickered with strange distortions.

Black energy and Tiger-like power moved across him in bursts.

His shadow tried to copy every movement.

Tanish suddenly disappeared.

His shadow looked around.

"You're not the only one who can adapt."

Tanish appeared behind it.

Bartolomeo stood surrounded by glowing structures.

Walls.

Platforms.

Weapons.

Shields.

Everything he created moved according to his will.

His shadow destroyed one of the structures.

Bartolomeo immediately created another.

"You can keep destroying them."

He grinned.

"I'll just keep creating."

The chamber filled with glowing creations.

Then—

Silence.

Every chamber stopped.

The warriors stood still.

One by one, their powers began changing.

The energy surrounding them became denser.

More controlled.

More powerful.

Their training had reached its next stage.

Mahan's magma burned hotter.

Thaman's flames moved with greater precision.

Nihal's golden aura became stronger and steadier.

Sudheepkar's T-Rex power became more controlled.

Charvik's Kitsune flames multiplied through the chamber.

Law's Room became sharper and more precise.

Mokshith's Mammoth strength increased.

Tanush's dragon energy surged through the storm.

Luffy's body crackled with overwhelming energy.

Ace's flames became more refined, even without an awakening.

Kizaru's light became faster.

Zoro's sword energy became sharper.

Sriyansh's Ice and Blizzard powers merged more naturally with his Yeti strength.

Dhruv's Quake power became more controlled.

Harshil's Sound energy resonated through the entire chamber.

Tanish's Tiger and Dark powers stopped interfering with each other.

Bartolomeo's creations became stronger and more complex.

Then the chambers disappeared.

The entire group stood together once again.

Everyone looked exhausted.

But nobody looked defeated.

Luffy looked at his hands.

He could feel something different.

A massive amount of power was waiting inside him.

He grinned.

"This time…"

His eyes sharpened.

"Gear 5 isn't just going to be a burst."

A faint white aura began forming around him.

"I'm going to keep it going longer than ever before."

Zoro looked at him.

"Don't burn yourself out."

Luffy laughed.

"I won't!"

Oden stepped forward, studying the others.

"You've all improved."

He looked toward the dark horizon.

"But don't mistake improvement for victory."

Law nodded.

"Whatever Imu sent us here to face…"

He looked around at the awakened warriors.

"It was only preparation."

A deep rumble shook the strange world.

The ground cracked beneath them.

Everyone turned toward the darkness.

Something enormous was approaching.

Luffy smiled.

"Then let's see what we're up against."

Their training was over.

Their powers had grown.

But the real battle had only just begun.
